BOULDER, Colo. — The University of Colorado Boulder has installed new systems at and the Indoor Ford Practice Facility through a partnership with Boulder-based .

In Brief:
  • installed artificial turf systems at Folsom Field and the Indoor Ford Practice Facility.
  • The fields use Brock shock pads and BrockFILL organic wood infill designed to improve athlete safety.
  • Brock USA founder Dan Sawyer, a CU alumnus, launched the company in Boulder in 1998.
  • The turf allows year-round practice on the same surface used for games and supports additional stadium events.

The fields use Brock shock pads and BrockFILL organic wood infill. University officials said the systems are intended to improve athlete safety and allow year-round training on the same surface used for games.

“At the University of Colorado Boulder, the safety and performance of our student-athletes is always our top priority,” said Jason DePaepe, senior deputy athletic director at CU Boulder. “The Brock Shock Pad and organic BrockFILL deliver a surface that reduces heat and plays like natural grass while providing protection for our athletes.”

Brock founder Dan Sawyer, a CU alumnus, started the company in Boulder in 1998.

“After 28 years rooted in the Boulder community, welcoming Folsom Field into the Brock family marks a full-circle moment for me,” Sawyer said.

Brock reports that more than 225 million square feet of its shock pads and 70 million pounds of BrockFILL have been installed nationwide at professional and college venues.

University officials said the decision was influenced by safety, performance and maintenance considerations. Natural grass fields in northern climates require significant upkeep and are used for a limited number of game days. CU hosted seven home games this past season.

The artificial turf allows practices on the same surface used during games and enables the stadium to host other events, including concerts.

United Turf and Track handled field construction, and provided the turf carpet used in the systems.
