Moneytree knows what employees want because the company conducts employee satisfaction surveys. In the most recent survey, employees indicated they were most satisfied with training, benefits, awards and customer service.

Training covers everything from new team member training to Branch Manager Boot Camp, which is held at the corporate office in Seattle. The financial-services company also offers online compliance training, and the in-house training department provides team members with the opportunity to grow personally as well as professionally. More than 80 percent of branch and assistant managers are promoted from within.

Benefits include fully paid health insurance available to all full- and part-time employees, a fully funded retirement profit sharing plan, tuition reimbursement, paid vacation, paid sick leave and long-term disability insurance. There’s also a confidential Employee Assistance Program that includes access to professional experts and counselors on a variety of topics to employees and their family members. “Our team members appreciate our competitive benefits package,” says Brittania Watson, Moneytree’s Colorado district manager. “I know that I hear quite a bit about our insurance benefits and our profit sharing plan, and the bonuses are always something employees appreciate.”

The bonuses fall under the Awards category of favorite benefits. Branches recognize team members by giving annual customer service awards. Employees also receive length of service awards on milestone years. Other annual awards include Store of the Year awards based on operational quality and customer service, monthly and annual individual customer service bonuses, and each district has an employee recognition budget.

Watson says managers are allowed to be creative with the awards. One branch manager in Northglenn was preparing to go on maternity leave and wanted to do something special for her team before she left. Moneytree provided them with gift certificates for massages at Massage Envy.

“A team in Colorado Springs recently got pedicures together. We let the teams and managers come up with ideas for fun team events and recognition,” Watson says. “This really fosters the team environments.” The Colorado branches also planned a barbecue recognition event for August.

Customer service is rewarded too. Team members who earn a perfect score on a customer service assessment become eligible to receive $200. Every month 10 names are randomly chosen from all perfect scores and each winner receives $200 plus his or her name on the company newsletter. This success also leads to philanthropy. When a team member earns the perfect score, the company adds money to the district’s Community Involvement Fund. Employees can choose which charities to support, and the Colorado Team has used its fund to support Denver Children’s Advocacy Center, Food Bank of the Rockies, The Children’s Hospital and others.

Moneytree provides check cashing and payday loans in California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Washington and British Columbia. The company also offers gift cards, prepaid debit cards, bill pay services, money orders and wire fund transfers. The company has 54 employees in 10 branches in Colorado, and a total of 900 employees in 120 branches in these Western states.
