Innovests' Richard Todd Serves to Receive

The CEO of the Year finalist is a cowboy at heart

Richard Todd is a cowboy at heart who chooses to live by a code, a colleague says. At an Innovest-sponsored workshop for employees, clients and friends of the firm hosted by The Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative, every participant wrote a personal code, and Todd’s reflected his leadership style, reading in part:

"Know what's right; do what's right. Go 'all in' and over-deliver.

Take responsibility and own my mistakes.

Winning is creating a win-win.

Hard work brings success.

Surround myself with great people."

And serve to receive — a tenet Todd takes very seriously. Todd defined the philanthropic mission of the firm as improving inner city education for children. Todd serves on the board and has made his company a Corporate Work Study Partner for Arrupe Jesuit High School, an innovative school that makes college preparatory education an attainable goal for a diverse group of students. Innovest has a Charitable Donations committee that gives 1.5 percent of firm revenue to worthy organizations in Colorado, totaling nearly $1 million in the last 10 years.

“Rich is an entrepreneur who takes great risks to help Innovest grow and flourish,” employee Becca Ellis says. “Sometimes, it’s hard for entrepreneurs to let go and give up control. However, Rich has done just that. Now Innovest has committees and task forces to spread responsibilities and tackle issues.”

He recently launched Innovest Family Office to enable Innovest to become a more complete resource to families.
