2) Rothstein Kass

Rothstein Kass employees never worry about who’s going to take care of Fido while they’re away on business.

The company concierge has got
their backs.

“The inspiration was simple,” says Steve Kass, who shares the CEO title with Howard Altman. “We listened when our team members told us they wished they could be in two places at once.

That perk helped bump the top-ranked accounting firm from No. 6 to No. 2 on this year’s Best Companies list, but there are plenty of other reasons. The firm’s commitment to hiring and retaining top talent is one of the keys to its success, which means making sure employees are happy and fulfilled both personally and professionally, Kass says.

“On an organizational level, it means balancing our unrelenting determination to be the best at what we do, with our clear mission to be a great place to work,” he says. “For all of us individually, striking the right work-life balance is very important. But it’s only part of the equation. We work hard to nurture talent, from educational initiatives through Rothstein Kass University to providing opportunities for career advancement.”

The company helps its employees weather its busiest times of the year with its “Marathon” program, an annual series of stress-relieving activities such as trivia contests, snacks and treats, as well as health fairs and workshops.

“We even have ‘Chocolate Fondue Day,'” Kass says.

During off-peak periods, employees have greater flexibility through a “time bank” program and customized work arrangements designed to help attract and retain women in a traditionally male endeavor.

When it comes to giving back, the company’s youthful, energetic component drives firm-wide involvement for organizations such as Autism Speaks and the National Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
