James Cress is counsel in the Denver office whose natural resources practice emphasizes international and U.S. mining and oil and gas law transactions, including financing. He has negotiated complex acquisitions, asset dispositions, and financings for coal, uranium, gold, copper, molybdenum, oil and gas, and other mineral-producing clients, and has testified before Congress as a royalty expert. His international experience spans the Philippines, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Ethiopia, Brazil, and beyond, including serving as a principal negotiator in developing the Financial or Technical Assistance Agreement used for large-scale mining investments in the Philippines. Cress has been recognized in Best Lawyers in America for mining since 2008 and in the International Who’s Who of Mining Lawyers since 1999. He is affiliated with the International Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association, and the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation.
