BOULDER, Colo. — Sovrn, a data and technology firm that supports content creators, has appointed Jud Valeski as its new chief technology officer.
Valeski will lead Sovrn’s data science, engineering and technology operations from the company’s Boulder office. He will report directly to CEO Walter Knapp.
“Data and technology are rapidly evolving and changing what it means to be a creator, publisher or platform,” Knapp said. “Jud brings the entrepreneurial, engineering and data-driven leadership we need in a world where AI is redefining every layer of the open internet.”
Valeski joins Sovrn from Honey Science Corporation, where he served as general manager and helped lead the company’s $4 billion acquisition by PayPal. He previously co-founded and served as CTO at Gnip, a social media API aggregation company acquired by Twitter in 2014. His experience also includes roles at Techstars, AOL, Netscape and Onebox.
“I have a passion for using technology to find new ways of working and I have turned that into a rewarding career,” Valeski said. “When the chance to become CTO at Sovrn came along, I knew it was the right next step. Sovrn has quietly assembled one of the most strategic datasets in the industry, linking attention, identity and purchases across the open internet. My goal is to ensure our technology scales to support the next generation of privacy-focused, AI-powered advertising and commerce. We are just getting started.”
Valeski’s appointment follows a strong start to the year for Sovrn. Last month the company launched Signal Vitals, a dashboard that helps publishers optimize ad inventory. Earlier this year Sovrn also rolled out Commerce Audiences, a dataset that enables advertisers to reach in-market shoppers across its premium exchange. The company recently added industry veteran Brian Monahan to its board of directors.
