Barnes & Noble is set to give Coloradans more room to read.
Colorado is among nine states and the District of Columbia that are slated to get new Barnes & Noble stores in 2026, according to a USA TODAY report.
The chain wants to open 60 new stores over the next year, with “several openings” planned by June 2026, the report said. The chain opened more than 60 stores in 2025 as well, including a pair in Colorado.
While the details are still “being worked out” as far as locations and grand opening dates, the expansion follows a period of “strong sales” in existing stores, Barnes & Noble confirmed to USA TODAY.
“Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful,” the bookstore chain said in a statement. “In 2024, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019.”
The report did not give locations or the number of new stores that Barnes & Noble would open in Colorado in 2026, but said it is on the list to get at least one new store.
According to the list obtained by USA TODAY, the bookseller also plans to open stores in Ohio, Texas, Florida, Illinois, Washington state, California, Virginia, Georgia and D.C.
