Brian Vicente, founding partner of Vicente LLP, is one of the architects of modern cannabis law. As a lead drafter and campaign co-director of Colorado’s Amendment 64 in 2012 — the first state-level cannabis legalization law in the world — he helped establish the model that 24 states have since followed. His Denver-based firm has grown to approximately 40 attorneys across four offices, with a practice spanning cannabis, hemp and psychedelics. Vicente served on Gov. Jared Polis’ 2018 gubernatorial transition team and has advised governments internationally, including Uruguay. “Amendment 64 was the first legalization law in the history of the globe at a state level,” he said, “so that really put Colorado on the map.” He serves as treasurer of the Marijuana Policy Project and president of the National Hispanic Cannabis Council.
