DENVER — The Governor’s Office of Federal Funds and Strategic Initiatives and the Colorado Department of Local Affairs on Monday announced the launch of a Notice of Funding Availability for a new program aimed at helping local governments and nonprofit organizations navigate federal funding challenges.
The Colorado Local Legal Support Program will provide legal assistance to communities that receive federal funds directly and need support related to federal funding decisions, grant management and compliance requirements.
The initiative will award $150,000 to a qualified legal services organization to provide assistance statewide. The program will prioritize small local governments and nonprofit organizations that have limited legal capacity, including those in rural areas.
State officials said the program is intended to help communities respond to changes in federal rules, guidance and oversight that can affect access to federal funding.
Funding for the initiative includes $75,000 from the state, $50,000 from the Gates Family Foundation and $25,000 from Rose Community Foundation.
The Notice of Funding Availability will be posted on the Department of Local Affairs grants portal at 10:30 a.m. MST on Monday and will remain open until 5 p.m. MST on Friday, Feb. 13, 2026.
The Local Legal Support Program is expected to launch in April and will operate for one year from the date of contract execution.
