In Brief:

The Bureau of Land Management has opened a 30-day public comment period on a proposed September 2026 oil and gas lease sale in Colorado that would include 29 parcels totaling 14,095 acres.

The comment period runs through June 12.

The agency said it completed scoping on the parcels in April and is now seeking public input on the proposed leases and related . The feedback will be used as part of the agency’s review process for each parcel.

Leasing is the first step in developing federal oil and gas resources. Before drilling can begin, operators must submit permit-to-drill applications that outline development plans. The BLM then reviews the applications, conducts environmental analysis and coordinates with state agencies and stakeholders.

The agency said all parcels included in federal oil and gas lease sales are subject to stipulations intended to protect natural resources.

Information on the parcels, maps and instructions for submitting comments is available on the BLM ePlanning website.
