Frisco is set to get 54 units thanks to grants and loans that incentivize development of housing affordable to middle-income people.

In Brief:
  • Frisco to receive 54 new units
  • to meet Zero Energy Ready standards
  • Project funded by $18.6M in bonds and $4.4M in grants
  • Housing prioritized for teachers, nurses, first responders

The energy-efficient Galena Apartments, which will be within walking distance of downtown Frisco, will be available to local residents earning 80 to 12% of the area median income, including teachers, first responders, medical professionals and local government staff.

The apartments will meet U.S. Department of Energy standards.

The (MIHA) sold $18.6 million in tax-exempt bonds to loan to project developer and owner NHP Foundation to acquire the land and build the project.

“Housing isn’t just about where we sleep — it’s about where we belong,” MIHA board President Peter LiFari said in a statement. “MIHA invests in communities like Frisco so the people who teach our kids, heal our loved ones and keep our towns vibrant can build their lives in the same places they uplift daily. Frisco deserves that kind of rootedness — and so do the people who make it home.”

The Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) awarded the project a $4 million grant from its Strong Communities Infrastructure program.

DOLA also awarded $375,898 from its Energy /Mineral Impact Assistance Fund More Housing Now initiative to support the infrastructure around the project.

“Colorado Department of Local Affairs’ mission is to strengthen Colorado communities, and we know workforce housing is one of the largest barriers that our mountain communities face,” DOLA Executive Director Maria De Cambra said. “We’re proud to contribute to the Galena Apartments, bringing housing that’s affordable to the teachers, first responders and nurses who provide critical services to the people of Frisco. They deserve to live where they work.”
