BROOMFIELD, Colo. — expanded its program Thursday with the commissioning of new solar units and introduced a refreshed at a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by state and local officials.

In Brief:
  • Northwest Parkway expands solar capacity to over 150 kW
  • Renewable energy now powers 75% of facility operations
  • New brand identity inspired by Colorado’s landscape
  • integration strengthens sustainability goals

The new installations add 88.5 kilowatts of capacity, bringing the Parkway’s total solar production to more than 150 kilowatts. Solar panels now power about 75% of the energy needs of administrative and maintenance buildings, with a goal of reaching 100% renewable coverage in the coming years.

The initiative builds on more than a decade of solar development on the toll road, which has already generated over 1,400 megawatt-hours of renewable energy and prevented more than 1,100 tons of carbon emissions. Since joining the VINCI Highways network, the Parkway has upgraded operations with LED lighting, added electric vehicle charging stations and begun converting service vehicles to electric models.

The ceremony included remarks from Broomfield Mayor Guyleen Castriotta, State Sen. Katie Wallace, Northwest Parkway Public Highway Authority Chair Austin Ward and VINCI Highways President Belen Marcos.

“The Northwest Parkway is more than just a connector for our region; it’s a partner in building a sustainable future,” Castriotta said. “This shows how Broomfield and Lafayette can benefit from innovation that reduces emissions, supports our climate goals and delivers real community impact.”

The Parkway also unveiled its updated logo, designed to highlight Colorado’s mountain and plains landscapes while reflecting its role in connecting communities. The visual identity marks the Parkway’s integration into VINCI Highways’ global network.

“With Northwest Parkway, we are showing how road operations can increasingly be powered by renewable energy,” Marcos said. “VINCI Highways will be a long-term partner, supporting the attractiveness and growth of the western Denver area and ensuring the Parkway delivers the best standards of road performance.”
