LAKEWOOD, Colo. — The Bureau of Land Management announced an oil and gas lease sale set for June 16, 2026, offering 170 parcels totaling 155,816 acres in Colorado.
The agency completed initial scoping in January and held a public comment period on the parcels and related environmental analysis that closed in March. A 30-day public protest period opened Friday and runs through May 18.
Leasing is the first step in developing federal oil and gas resources. Before operations begin, companies must submit an application for a permit to drill that outlines their development plans. The BLM reviews those applications, posts them for public review, conducts environmental analysis and coordinates with state partners and other stakeholders.
All parcels included in the lease sale are subject to stipulations intended to protect natural resources, the agency said.
Information on current and upcoming lease sales is available through the National Fluid Lease Sale System. The June sale will be conducted online through Efficient Markets. Maps of the parcels and instructions for submitting a protest are available on the BLM’s ePlanning website.
