Founded in 2005 by Mike and Joyce Ward, Ward Electric Company, Inc. has grown from a small family business into a leading electrical contractor with a national reach. Headquartered in Longmont, the company began with three field employees and a six-unit fleet. Today, it employs more than 565 full-time staff and manages a fleet of over 900 pieces of equipment.
The company’s foundation was built on high-voltage transmission and distribution work, including substations, and later expanded into renewables, commercial, industrial and residential services. From its earliest projects in Colorado, Ward Electric has extended its footprint across the United States, positioning itself as a trusted partner for clients requiring complex and large-scale electrical solutions.
Mark Ward, Chief Executive Officer, and Matt Ward, President, purchased the company from their parents in 2012. At that time, Ward Electric had just over 70 employees. Under their leadership, the company has grown nearly tenfold, reflecting a steady focus on building upon the company’s founding values while expanding services and operations. They emphasized leadership development, communication, and employee training as critical elements of growth. In recent years, Ward Electric launched a leadership training program to strengthen field management and an online onboarding program to ensure cultural continuity across the workforce.
Community involvement has remained central to Ward Electric’s identity. The company actively supports schools, youth sports leagues and nonprofit organizations, with a strong focus on programs benefiting children with special needs. In 2022, Mark and Matt Ward established the JoyForWARD Foundation in honor of their late mother, Joyce, who served as president until her passing in 2020. The foundation supports causes such as faith-based education, nursing initiatives, veterans’ programs, and special needs advocacy. In 2024 alone, Ward Electric and the JoyForWARD Foundation contributed more than $500,000 to area nonprofits.
Looking ahead, Ward Electric’s leadership remains committed to sustainable growth, employee development and community impact. The company continues to focus on exceeding client expectations while maintaining the family-centered culture that has guided it for two decades.
