Managing partner of Welborn Sullivan Meck & Tooley, Amy Seneshen, 52, started her 25-year law career in mining and quickly expanded into oil and gas. Seneshen now regularly negotiates energy deals in the hundreds of millions of dollars and worked on a $1.33 billion acquisition in 2020.
Seneshen said she learned an indelible lesson early on while working on an oil and gas development project. “I was negotiating a transaction for the client, and it became clear that I didn’t understand a few things,” she remembered. “Even though I felt kind of stupid at the time, I asked those questions, and it quickly became apparent that nobody knew the answers to those questions.”
That willingness to learn has guided Seneshen’s career ever since, and she said technological advancement helps keep it fresh today. “Natural resources law is a field of innovators,” she said, citing a new client, Boston-based VerAI, that’s using AI to locate mineral deposits. “I think that’s going to be transformative in the mining industry.”
