J. Kemper “Kemp” Will, founded Burns, Figa & Will’s environmental group and is a shareholder with the Greenwood Village-based firm today. Will started his law career more than 40 years ago with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and is now one of the most prolific Superfund lawyers in the country. He has been involved in hundreds of brownfield deals and redevelopment projects as well as cleanups, and compliance cases, and environmental litigation over the decades.

The timing and trajectory of his career aligned with the emergence of environmental law, as the Superfund law was passed by the U.S. Congress in 1980. Asked of big lessons he’s learned in his career, Will’s words of advice essentially apply to all matters in both law and life: “Understand all viewpoints and treat people respectfully.”
