Boulder County Farmers Markets marks 40th season with year-round plans

BOULDER, Colo. — The City of Boulder is recognizing the 40th season of Boulder County Farmers Markets, marking four decades of connecting residents with local farmers, food producers and artisans.

The nonprofit will celebrate the milestone during its Picnic for a Purpose event on June 24, which highlights system leaders and efforts.

The operates along 13th Street near Canyon Boulevard in downtown Boulder, an area being considered as part of the East Bookend Development Project. The site is included in the city’s , which envisions a food and culture-focused district.

The city and Boulder County Farmers Markets have formalized a partnership aimed at establishing a permanent, year-round farmers market presence as part of the development. Under the agreement, the organization would serve as the operator of a planned indoor food marketplace.

“As we celebrate this milestone, we’re grateful for the community support that has made our work possible,” said , executive director of Boulder County Farmers Markets. “We’re excited to deepen our partnership with the City of Boulder as we help shape a shared vision for a year-round market space in the heart of Downtown Boulder.”

The city plans to issue a request for proposals for the East Bookend Development Project in August. The process will seek development concepts and partnership structures for the site.

“After 40 years of operating in Boulder, we are excited to take another step forward in our partnership with the farmers market,” said City Manager Nuria Rivera-Vandermyde. “We celebrate the important role BCFM plays in our community, from expanding access to local food and supporting small businesses to creating a gathering place for community members and visitors.”

The Boulder Farmers Market is open Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. through Oct. 7 and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Nov. 21. Parking is available in City of Boulder garages. Visitors pay a $3 flat rate on weekdays when entering and exiting a garage between 3 p.m. and 3 a.m. Parking is free in city garages on Saturdays, Sundays and city holidays.
