Byron Kominek is the owner and manager of Jack’s Solar Garden, a 1.2-megawatt agrivoltaic research site on his family’s 24-acre farm south of Longmont, Colorado. After more than six years working in international development across Africa, including five years as a U.S. diplomat focused on natural resource management, Kominek returned to the family land in 2016 and pioneered a model integrating solar energy production with crops, pollinators, and research. He also leads the Colorado Agrivoltaic Learning Center, a nonprofit providing educational opportunities to students, community members, and policymakers. He holds a master’s degree in environmental engineering.
