DENVER — Colorado FIRST will host a high school robotics competition April 10-11 at the University of Denver Ritchie Center Magness Arena, bringing together 55 teams and more than 1,200 students from across the United States and several countries.
Teams from Colorado, Arizona, Kansas, Montana, South Dakota, Texas, Wyoming and Hawaii, along with participants from Mexico and the Czech Republic, will compete in a two-day engineering competition focused on robotics design and performance.
The event opens April 10 with a ceremony from 8:30 to 9 a.m. featuring remarks from John Hickenlooper. Organizers expect 3,000 to 5,000 attendees, including students, educators and families.
Colorado FIRST said it serves more than 6,000 K-12 students annually through robotics programs that emphasize engineering, programming and teamwork. The organization reports many participants pursue careers in science and technology fields.
“This event represents more than a competition,” said Rodger Stewart, board director and chief growth officer for Colorado FIRST. “We are proud to bring together such a diverse group of students.”
The event is open to the public.
