DENVER — Communities across Colorado are hosting events and programs this month as part of the America 250 – Colorado 150 commemoration, a statewide effort marking key milestones in U.S. and state history.
Organizers say the April schedule includes new initiatives, public events and opportunities for residents and visitors to participate in local history and cultural activities.
Two additions to the state’s digital passport program are set to launch on April 15. The Wildlife Passport will guide participants to destinations focused on wildlife and natural habitats, while the Water Adventures Passport highlights rivers, lakes and other water-based recreation sites.
The “Stories in the Sky” drone show series is continuing with nearly 150 shows planned across the state. The next event is scheduled for April 25 at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park following a Denver Summit FC match. The display is intended to bring attendees together for a shared experience.
A new Historic Marker Program is also underway. The initiative invites communities to propose locations and stories for commemoration, with up to 150 markers expected statewide. The first round of proposals is open through April 15.
The Portraits of Colorado at 150 project continues to collect oral histories and community stories. Organizers will attend the Arvada Kite Festival on April 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to record interviews and share information about how residents can participate.
“We’re capturing voices from across the state and giving communities tools to share their histories,” organizers said.
