Red Rocks Community College hosts Our Voices Playwriting Festival in Lakewood

Red Rocks Community College will host the Our Voices Playwriting Festival Aug. 8-9 at its Lakewood campus, 13300 W. Sixth Ave.
The two-day festival for Colorado playwrights will include workshops, panel discussions, networking events, open mics and performances. Open mics will begin at 4 p.m. each day, followed by public readings at 7 p.m. in the college theater. The performances are free and open to the public.
“Because so much of playwriting is a solitary endeavor, it’s easy for playwrights to feel alone,” festival coordinator and playwright Colette Mazunik said. “This festival is an opportunity for us to come together, to learn, to connect and to celebrate one another’s work.”
Playwrights featured Aug. 8 include Veronica Chaparro-Maillet, Laurie Scoggins, V.B. Rankin, Joyce Fontana, Wil Alston and Mike Ryder. The Aug. 9 lineup includes Linda Berry, Riley Christian, Ian Hubbard, Marty Rapp, Audrey Lang and Jay Boone. Their plays were selected through a submission process completed this spring.
Full festival admission is $75. Single-day, student and pay-what-you-can rates are also available. Tickets and additional information are available through the college’s ticketing website.
