J. C. “Curt” Marvel Jr. has led Brannan Companies through three decades of transformational growth, guiding the Denver-based infrastructure firm from a regional asphalt producer into a diversified leader in aggregates, concrete, asphalt and underground utilities.
A University of Denver graduate with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and biology, Marvel began his career at Brannan Sand and Gravel in 1971 as a laborer and equipment operator. He advanced steadily through the company, serving as an estimator and project manager from 1976 to 1986, as general manager from 1986 to 1994 and as president of Brannan Companies since 1994.
Under his leadership, Brannan has grown more than 1,500% over three decades, strengthened by Marvel’s strategic focus on vertical integration and supply chain control. His development of Brannan Aggregates, LLC, and expansion of asphalt, concrete and utility operations across the Front Range have enabled the company to manage costs, ensure material quality and mobilize rapidly for large-scale infrastructure projects.
Marvel’s vision of a vertically integrated organization, owning and operating aggregate pits, asphalt and ready-mix plants and testing facilities, has positioned Brannan as a one-stop provider for complex projects, from highways to stadiums. He has also emphasized operational resilience, workforce stability and quality assurance, resulting in sustained performance and profitability.
Throughout his career, Marvel has championed a people-first philosophy, believing that investing in employees drives long-term success. His commitment to mentorship, professional growth and employee retention has built a legacy of loyalty and excellence within the Brannan organization.
