Ian Skor is chief executive officer and founder of Sandbox Solar+, a Fort Collins-based renewable energy company specializing in residential and commercial solar, battery storage and high-efficiency HVAC systems. Since launching the company in 2015, he has grown Sandbox Solar from a small startup into a leading innovator in Colorado’s clean energy sector, recognized for its technical excellence and pioneering work in agrivoltaics.

A licensed professional engineer, Skor earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry. He began his career as a solar designer at RGS Energy before founding Sandbox Solar to create locally powered, community-focused energy solutions. His leadership combines engineering expertise with a vision for sustainability, mentorship and organizational culture rooted in empowerment and accountability.

Under Skor’s direction, Sandbox Solar has achieved significant growth and industry recognition, expanding to 45 employees with a 31% year-over-year increase in revenue. In 2018, he led the company’s entry into agrivoltaics, the dual use of land for solar power and agriculture, securing USDA innovation funding for Colorado’s first agrivoltaics research installation at Colorado State University. The firm has since completed more than 15 projects in this emerging field.

In 2024, Skor expanded the company’s reach with the launch of Sandbox HVAC, making it the only provider in the region to offer solar and heat pump systems fully in-house. His long-term vision is to position Sandbox Solar as the nation’s most trusted provider of self-sufficiency products through innovation, quality and environmental stewardship.
