LOUISVILLE, Colo. — Sierra Space has received a contract worth up to $798 million from the U.S. Space Development Agency to design, manufacture and deliver 18 missile warning, missile tracking and missile defense satellites.
The firm fixed-price Other Transaction Agreement supports the Accelerated Missile Defense Tranche 3 tracking layer, part of the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture and the Golden Dome for America missile defense initiative.
The satellites will be built on Sierra Space’s Horizon spacecraft platform, which is also being used for the company’s Tranche 2 Tracking Layer program. Sierra Space said it has completed all 18 spacecraft structures for the Tranche 2 program and expects to qualify a nine-satellite launch configuration this summer, followed by system verification testing later this year.
“This contract demonstrates Sierra Space’s capabilities” in national security space missions, CEO Dan Jablonsky said. “We’re honored to partner with SDA as a prime contractor to deliver on the nation’s space-based missions.”
The Space Development Agency, part of the U.S. Space Force, develops and deploys space-based systems to support military operations. The agency said the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture is intended to accelerate the delivery of space capabilities for national defense.
Sierra Space is headquartered in Louisville and develops satellites, spacecraft, propulsion systems and other space technologies for government, commercial and national security customers.
