STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. — The Tread of Pioneers Museum has changed its name to the Steamboat Springs History Museum, reflecting the organization’s expanded focus on preserving and interpreting the history of Steamboat Springs and Routt County.
Founded in 1959, the museum said the new name better represents its current role while maintaining its mission to collect, preserve and share the region’s history.
“The transition to Steamboat Springs History Museum reflects our evolution and identity as a modern history museum,” Executive Director Candice Bannister said. “We remain focused on preserving the past, engaging the present and inspiring future generations and stewardship.”
The museum continues to highlight the history of Routt County’s early settlers while expanding its exhibits and programs to include Indigenous history and culture, ranching, skiing and Olympic heritage, mining, tourism, arts and culture, historic preservation and the area’s mineral springs.
Over the past two decades, the museum has expanded its exhibits, educational programs, collections and community partnerships.
The museum serves more than 15,000 visitors each year, including about 5,000 children, through permanent and rotating exhibits and more than 300 programs, tours and events annually.
