BOULDER — Nude Foods Market, a Boulder-based grocery store focused on reducing single-use plastic packaging, secured investment commitments from Kevin O’Leary and Robert Herjavec during an appearance on Shark Tank last month.
The company, founded by Verity Noble and Rachel Irons, operates stores in Boulder and Denver and offers grocery items in returnable glass jars and reusable containers. Customers return packaging for cleaning and reuse.
Nude Foods Market said its model aims to reduce waste by eliminating most single-use packaging across products, including pantry items, produce, prepared meals and household goods.
“We started Nude Foods because we know single-use plastic is bad for both people and the planet, yet it is almost completely unavoidable in daily life,” Noble said.
Traditional grocery stores rely heavily on disposable packaging, while Nude Foods Market uses a return system that allows containers to be reused multiple times.
The company has received national recognition for its approach, including being named among the top independent grocers in the United States by Progressive Grocer.
The investment follows a pitch by the founders on the television show, where both investors agreed to back the business after negotiations.
“We believe the future of grocery is far less wasteful,” Noble said. “This investment and the exposure from Shark Tank help us move one step closer to that future.”
