Byron Haselden, 56, is the second-generation CEO of family-owned Haselden Construction in Centennial. Byron’s father, Jim, founded the firm in 1973, and his nephew, Brent, now serves in a leadership role. Recent and ongoing projects include Intermountain Health’s new Lutheran Hospital in Wheat Ridge and the company’s fifth building in the last five years at Snowmass Village.
Haselden said that he measures power by “bravery” in the construction industry. “What that means is that you tell people what they need to hear, not what they want to hear,” he explained. “That’s tough in construction, because I think there’s a lot of ego, and everybody thinks you’ve got to be big, powerful, and tell everybody what to do. In this day and age, that doesn’t work, and honestly, in the next generation of workforce, I think it backfires so we’ve really tried to make sure we empower our people.”
Added Haselden: “If you don’t have great people building great things, as we often say, it just doesn’t go anywhere.”
