DENVER — Denver entrepreneur John Goscha and hospitality operator Jake Riederer have opened The Carriage House, a European-inspired café next to Cheesman Park.
The café serves sandwiches, salads, pastries from Black Box Bakery, coffee, beer and wine. The menu was developed by Riederer and 2025 James Beard Award semifinalist Melissa Yanc.
Menu items include French onion grilled cheese with onion consommé, a North African tuna pan bagnat and toasted focaccia topped with combinations such as whipped ricotta and pepper jam. Customers may select three focaccia “toastettes” for $10.
The beverage menu features Novo Coffee, draft and bottled beer, wine and a spritz. A retail section offers snacks, picnic supplies, bottled wine and six-packs to go.
“This project started with a simple idea: Create a spot in the neighborhood people would really want to spend time in,” Goscha said. “We’re taking our time with the rollout, opening in phases with coffee and food first and the full bar to follow.”
A second phase planned for September will add a cocktail bar, more food options, indoor seating and an expanded happy hour. The renovated interior features marble counters, paneled walls, vintage mirrors and a checkerboard floor.
The Carriage House is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with happy hour from 3 to 5 p.m. The owners said profits from the café will support local community causes.
