Danny Foster, 54, is a founding partner at Foster Graham Milstein & Calisher, LLP, which now handles personal injury as well as business, appellate, real estate, and other cases. He started off as a sole practitioner in 2000 after working as a prosecutor in the Denver District Attorney’s office, and expanded into other areas with other attorneys as he narrowed his focus to personal injury work. In about 15 years, the firm’s personal injury practice has generated more than $83 million in settlements and verdicts for its clients.
Foster said he eschews television and billboard advertising for a reason. “I think that the really good lawyers in my field are the ones who do the work themselves, interact with the clients themselves, and develop the relationships themselves,” he explained. “I think that creates a lot of power and a lot of advocacy for the clients.”
His advice to young attorneys: “Try to burn as few bridges as possible. Sometimes that means you have to swallow some humble pie, but that’s okay, because in the long run, it makes you a better lawyer, and certainly, I think, makes you a better person.”
