Elevations Credit Union CEO Gerry Agnes to retire in 2026

BOULDER — Elevations Credit Union President and CEO Gerry Agnes will retire on Feb. 28, 2026, after 17 years leading the organization. The board of directors has begun a succession process to ensure a smooth transition.

Agnes, who joined Elevations in 2008, said serving the credit union and its members has been the highlight of his career. “Together, we have built something truly special. Elevations is rooted in community and committed to excellence,” he said. “Thank you for trusting us with your financial goals and for being part of this incredible journey.”

During Agnes’s tenure, Elevations expanded its reach, strengthened its financial performance and gained national recognition for service quality. He guided the organization through the 2008 financial crisis and led its pursuit of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, which Elevations received in 2014 and again in 2020. It is the first two-time recipient of the award in Colorado and one of fewer than 15 organizations nationwide to achieve the distinction.

Elevations earned several honors under his leadership, including recognition as Colorado’s top credit union mortgage lender by purchase volume from 2020 through 2024. It was named to the Top Workplaces USA list in 2024 and 2025 and received Top Workplaces Colorado honors in 2023 and 2024. The Denver Business Journal also recognized the organization with its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award in 2022 and 2023.

Agnes received several leadership awards throughout his career, including the Baldrige Award for Leadership Excellence in 2020, the Mountain West Credit Union Association’s Credit Union Professional of the Year in 2016, the Boulder Chamber Businessperson of the Year in 2016 and the Credit Union Executive Society Outstanding Chief Executive Award in 2015.

His tenure also included the founding of the Local Change Foundation in 2010. Supported in part by Elevations, the foundation has provided more than $4 million in community resources.
