AURORA, Colo. — A Texas-based security film installer has been awarded a contract to complete one of the largest window film projects in recent 3M history, bringing expanded operations and new jobs to Colorado.

In Brief:
  • won one of 3M’s largest school safety film projects
  • The project includes installing 300,000 square feet of 3M
  • The company opened an Aurora office and plans a larger Denver-area facility
  • Epic will hire and train local installers as part of its Colorado expansion

Epic Security & Architectural Films secured a major Colorado school safety project, installing 3M security window film and expanding operations statewide.

Epic Security & Architectural Films will install about 300,000 square feet of Safety and Security Window Film S2400 at schools within a Colorado school district. The project is among the largest school security film installations undertaken by 3M to date.

School districts nationwide have increasingly turned to security window film to add protection against intruders and active-shooter threats. According to 3M, its safety and security films have been tested against bomb blasts, explosions and wind speeds of up to 170 miles per hour.

The Scotchshield S2400 film is designed to hold shattered glass in place after impact, helping prevent flying shards and delaying forced entry. The product offers increased tear strength and energy absorption, providing additional time for emergency response, the company said.

To meet growing demand for breach-resistant film, Epic Security & Architectural Films has opened an office in Aurora and plans to establish a larger operations facility near Denver. The new location will serve as the company’s secondary base of operations in the United States.

Founded in 2018, Epic Security & Architectural Films is led by President Kelly Eder and focuses primarily on improving safety in schools. Eder said the company’s mission grew out of a personal experience.

Eder was visiting her children’s elementary school in Texas when her husband, Chris Eder, who has decades of experience in the window film industry, noticed improperly installed security film on school windows. He explained that poor installation can prevent the film from performing as intended, leaving buildings vulnerable.

“I was dumbfounded,” Kelly Eder said. “After going home and thinking about the safety of our children, I told Chris we needed to get back into the window film industry with a focus on school safety.”

Since then, the company estimates it has installed more than one million square feet of 3M window film across Texas, primarily in school systems. As a 3M Premier Elite Dealer, Epic also provides window film installation for commercial, government and residential clients nationwide.

As part of its Colorado expansion, Epic plans to hire and train local installers, as well as office staff and other operational employees. Certified installers from the company’s existing team will train new hires.

“We do not hire subcontractors,” Kelly Eder said. “We manage our own work and hire our own team so installations are completed to our exacting standards.”

Chris Eder, the company’s chief operating officer, said attention to detail sets Epic apart.

“We are not going to rush the process and jeopardize the integrity of the film,” he said. “It is important that installations are done correctly.”

Epic is also expanding its headquarters in McKinney, Texas, relocating to a new 15,000-square-foot, two-story facility that will house operations, printing and graphics and administrative offices. The company currently employs 47 people at its Texas headquarters, with installers working on projects nationwide.

Kelly Eder said school safety remains the company’s core focus.

“School safety is what drives me,” she said. “We are looking forward to working in Colorado to help protect students, teachers and staff.”
