Julie Taulman is a visionary leader whose personal mission and professional achievements have transformed the landscape of adaptive sports in Colorado and beyond. As president and CEO of the National Sports Center for the Disabled, one of the largest adaptive sports nonprofits in the country, Julie has combined strategic expertise with a deeply personal passion to expand opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
Her journey began with her son Kyle’s battle with cancer and paralysis, which ignited her determination to open doors for others facing similar challenges. Julie became a founding board member and then the first executive director of Steamboat Adaptive Recreational Sports, where she led the development of a year-round facility that broadened access to adaptive recreation.
Since joining NSCD in 2020 and becoming president and CEO in 2023, Julie has continued to break barriers. She launched the Front Range Adaptive Program Center at Jefferson County Fairgrounds, secured major grants for adaptive bikes and hand cycles, and expanded programs to serve over 2,100 participants this year—a 22% increase from 2023. Under her leadership, the NSCD’s revenue grew by 20% and scholarships increased by 43%, ensuring greater financial access.
Julie’s vision extends to elite athletes training for the Paralympics, veterans participating at no cost and hundreds of volunteers who amplify NSCD’s reach. She works tirelessly with community partners and national networks to drive collaboration and innovation.
Her leadership embodies the spirit of possibility, creating life-changing moments that help people rethink what is possible and live fully through sport and community.
