Sharon Knight, President and CEO of Hope Communities, is a transformative leader whose career has strengthened Colorado’s nonprofit and education sectors for nearly three decades. Since taking the helm at Hope Communities in 2017, Sharon has revitalized the organization’s financial stability, expanded its programming and built a team of 37 who serve thousands of Denver’s most vulnerable residents in 21 languages.
Under her leadership, Hope’s program budget has grown by 1,600 percent and the number of clients served annually has increased by 900 percent. She guided the organization through unprecedented growth, creating innovative service models that provide pathways from affordable housing to economic mobility and intergenerational wealth.
In the past year alone, Sharon and her team supported nearly 4,600 clients with housing and vital services, provided food assistance for nearly 100,000 meals and helped hundreds access employment, health and wellness resources. She also forged a pioneering partnership with Gorman and Company and the Colorado Health Foundation to create a campus offering affordable housing, childcare, healthcare and wraparound services.
Sharon’s leadership has earned widespread recognition, including being named a Denver Business Journal Most Admired CEO in 2023. Hope Communities has been honored with the ColoradoBiz Nonprofit of the Year, the Eagle Award from Housing Colorado and multiple diversity and philanthropy awards.
A champion for equity, Sharon invests in developing diverse talent, expanding opportunities for BIPOC staff and ensuring clients are served with dignity and cultural understanding. Her commitment to service, innovation and community partnership continues to change lives and neighborhoods across Denver.
