As the founding shareholder of Burg Simpson, Michael Burg, 75, has won his clients more than $1 billion in verdicts, judgments, and settlements over the course of his 40-plus-year career. The winner of the prestigious Clarence Darrow Award in 2013 and the Kenneth Norman Kripke Lifetime Achievement Award from the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association in 2022, Burg is also the author of Trial by Fire: One Man’s Battle to End Corporate Greed and Save Lives, published in 2016.
“There are trial lawyers and there are people who claim to be trial lawyers,” said Burg. “The only way you can really be a trial lawyer is to try cases, and today, unfortunately, a lot of people don’t try cases.”
His advice to aspiring litigators: “Have no fear and hopefully no ego. Many of my cases have been against the largest law firms in the world, and they attempt to intimidate you. And quite frankly, you can’t be intimidated if you’re going to be in that arena.”
