A partner at Snell & Wilmer, Jim Kilroy, 60, has litigated jury trials for 34 years on cases involving contracts, trade secrets, liability, and other areas. As an appellate advocate, he has handled numerous appeals in state and federal courts.
“Within law, there are different types of power,” said Kilroy. “There are lawyers who are true power brokers, building connections, relationships. I wouldn’t put myself in that category as a litigator. The way I view power is really the ability to affect change in representing the client. We literally have a license to do things other people can’t do. With that comes the opportunity to affect change, both for our clients, but also, more broadly, societal change.”
Case in point: Kilroy represented a mother pro bono in an international custody case that was an assignment from the U.S. State Department, and won it in late 2024. “When she sent me the picture of her picking up the boys at the Toronto airport, that was definitely a highlight of my career,” said Kilroy.
