Michael O’Donnell has taken about 90 trials to verdict, and he has appeared as lead defense counsel in 48 states — he’s only missing Alaska and Vermont. The former president of the American College of Trial Lawyers, O’Donnell’s track record has earned him numerous honors and accolades.
As firm chair at Wheeler Trigg O’Donnell, O’Donnell views power much differently than a corporate executive. “Power in a professional services firm is very different,” he explained. “It’s more horizontal than vertical. I have peers. Unlike a chairman or a president in a corporation, I’m trying to persuade and to convince my partners.”
O’Donnell said the Colorado state and federal justice systems are both superlative. “People are less confident in the fairness of our system, but I would challenge anyone to identify a country that has a fairer system, that has better access to justice, that reveres the jury trial like the United States does. There are flaws, but it’s the best system in the world.”
