DENVER — Mother Other, a vegan restaurant and bar from Chef Alexi Mandolini and Beverage Director Taylor Herbert, is scheduled to open June 27 in Denver’s Baker neighborhood.
Located in the Denver Design District at 675 S. Broadway, Suite 300, Mother Other is the first brick-and-mortar restaurant from the team behind The Easy Vegan. The opening follows six years of pop-ups and appearances at farmers’ markets.
The restaurant’s concept draws from family recipes and traditions passed down through generations. Handwritten recipes from family members will be displayed throughout the space.
“Women have always been the backbone of hospitality, and we want our kitchen to reflect that, but Mother Other is also for everyone who has ever needed a third place to call their own,” Mandolini said.
The menu reflects the founders’ backgrounds and includes dishes such as Giarancini, a fried risotto dish served with house giardiniera, celery root puree and chive aioli; Spring Pea and Leek Dumplings in ginger and porcini broth; Potato and Chive Pierogi; and Rigatoni alla Vodka. Desserts include Chocolate Budino and Brioche Doughnuts with vanilla custard and poached rhubarb.
The beverage program will feature house-carbonated vegetable sodas, seasonal cocktails and beer-and-shot offerings.
“At Mother Other, the bar program and the kitchen aren’t separate conversations. They’re the same one,” Herbert said.
Mandolini graduated from Kendall College’s culinary program in Chicago and previously served as executive chef for a Chicago catering company. Herbert has worked in bartending and bar management, including at LGBTQ+ bars and nightclubs in North Carolina and Denver.
The pair met in 2018 after Mandolini moved to Denver from Chicago. In 2023, they gained national attention after winning Season 16 of Food Network‘s “The Great Food Truck Race.”
Mother Other will be open Thursday through Sunday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
