Solid Ground Apartments in Lakewood is a 34,985-square-foot permanent supportive housing complex developed to serve individuals experiencing homelessness. Designed by Ebersoldt + Associates Architecture and built by Bryan Construction, the four-story building includes 40 one-bedroom units, lounges, a library and a business center. The project embraces a Housing First model, offering residents access to on-site therapists, case managers and essential resources while removing barriers to entry for those in need.
Developed by the Jefferson Center for Mental Health with Dominium Group as the owner’s representative, Solid Ground faced several challenges, including low-voltage permitting delays and a near-zero-lot-line site with limited access and adjacent residential streets. Bryan Construction navigated these constraints through proactive coordination, support from JR Engineering and careful communication with local authorities. Their efforts secured a temporary certificate of occupancy and kept the project on track.
Powered by 208 solar panels, the building generates 91% of its energy from solar, supporting the 2020 Enterprise Green Communities Program goals.
The project was funded through Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and backed by numerous public and private partners. With rent-free units for residents and a dedicated services team, Solid Ground creates a safe, sustainable and dignified place for individuals to build stability and thrive in the community.
