AVON, Colo. — The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa Avon, Vail Valley has received Gold Level Certification from the Colorado Green Business Network, the resort announced Aug. 12.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment recognized the resort for reducing resource use and adopting sustainability and environmental management practices.
During the past year, the Westin Riverfront introduced a composting program covering food and paper waste from its dining outlets, athletic club and spa. An audit by Eagle County’s Walking Mountains Science Center found the resort had a 96% recycling and composting diversion rate.
The resort also added two electric Kia EV9 SUVs to its guest shuttle fleet and installed carpet tiles in Spa Anjali made from recycled yarn, including discarded commercial fishing nets.
“We are very pleased to have achieved this honor from the Colorado Green Business Network,” General Manager Veronica Moretti said.
The 230-unit resort is managed by East West Hospitality and holds Silver LEED certification.
