CAÑON CITY, Colo. — SteadyFlow LLC, a Colorado water technology company spun out of 3 Rocks Engineering and Surveying, launched a mechanical gate designed to regulate water flow without electricity or electronic controls.

The SteadyFlow Gate automatically adjusts to changing water levels, maintaining a consistent flow for and applications. Traditional headgates can require several manual adjustments each day as water levels rise and fall.

“We developed the SteadyFlow Gate to take that burden off people’s plates with an easy-to-use, straightforward mechanical solution,” founder said.

The current design handles flows of about 0.1 to 20 cubic feet per second with 1 to 10 feet of available head. For irrigation systems, the gate is intended to reduce manual adjustments, protect infrastructure and improve water distribution. It can also regulate discharge from stormwater detention basins and potentially reduce basin size.

Engineers and agricultural producers at 3 Rocks developed the technology, which received a patent in 2017. Development was supported by an Early-Stage Capital and Retention grant from the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade’s Advanced Industries Accelerator Program and a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

SteadyFlow recently joined Colorado’s Rural Jump-Start Program in Fremont County and plans to expand its manufacturing operations. The company is based in Cañon City.
