Colorado to launch statewide online permitting platform to speed approvals

DENVER — will develop a statewide online permitting platform as part of an effort to shorten approval times for , and other industries.

An executive order issued Aug. 6 directs state agencies to begin with a pilot program for the . The agencies must submit a joint progress report by Dec. 15, with the goal of expanding the platform to other sectors.

“Companies interested in Colorado are deterred by a confusing and slow permitting process,” Gov. said.

The order directs several agencies and divisions to digitize applications, simplify permitting procedures and establish benchmarks for processing times. The changes apply to the Air Pollution Control Division, Energy and Carbon Management Commission, Hazardous Materials and Waste Management Division and Water Quality Control Division.

The agencies oversee permits related to air and water quality, hazardous waste management, geothermal development and construction of manufacturing facilities.

The order calls for agencies to reduce regulatory complexity while maintaining environmental and public health protections.
