Boulder renews BCycle and Lime contracts for shared mobility

BOULDER, Colo. — Boulder has renewed its contracts with BCycle and Lime to operate the city’s shared bicycle and electric scooter program following a competitive bidding process.
The services recorded more than 1.6 million rides in 2025, according to the city.
Beginning in mid-August, Lime will introduce seated electric scooters, called LimeGliders, primarily in neighborhoods near the city limits. The company plans to add as many as 200 of the devices over several months while maintaining its fleet of 900 standing electric scooters.
BCycle will add stations and introduce electric bicycles with longer ranges and in-dock charging over the coming years.
“Scooter and bike share provide a convenient way for pedestrians to go a little farther than they planned and make active transportation more practical and flexible for more people,” Transportation and Mobility Director Blythe Bailey said.
Lime will offer 25% discounts for rides beginning in areas with frequent transit service. Its LimeAccess program will continue providing free 30-minute rides to income-qualified users.
The city also plans to expand its mandatory parking zone in central Boulder and install additional parking areas. Lime users within the zone must leave devices in designated spaces.
Lime scooters and LimeGliders are limited to 15 mph, with lower limits in some areas. Riders must be at least 18, and only one person may use a device at a time. The vehicles are permitted on roads, bike lanes and multi-use paths. Sidewalk riding is prohibited when a bike lane is available or when the adjacent street has a speed limit of 20 mph or less.
