Curtis Fentress, principal in charge of design at Fentress Architects, worked with the legendary I.M. Pei before founding the firm in Denver in 1980. His work on the design of Denver International Airport elevated him into the upper echelon of architects not just in Colorado, but worldwide. Subsequent work on such projects as Incheon International Airport in South Korea and the National Museum of the Marine Corps near Washington, D.C, have cemented that status.
“Architecture creates a stage for life,” said Fentress of the power of architects. “Memorable design integrates what is special about a place—culture, history, landscape—to create buildings that unite, serve, and inspire communities.” A recent local example: the firm’s work on the stunning new Hosmer Visitor Center at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
“Creating great architecture starts with listening closely to understand what a client and community need,” Fentress added. “From there, it is essential that the architects, engineers, and technology specialists work together to define and shape a vision for the future.”
