Founding principal at Shears Adkins Rockmore, Chris Shears, 77, helped spur residential development in Lower Downtowe in the late 1990s with the neighborhood’s first new loft construction. His 50-year career in architecture has involved working on projects worth more than $1.5 billion combined.

From his construction of a multi-story treehouse as a youngster, in Kansas, Shears has been enthralled by building better places. “I still walk in the office every morning happy and enthusiastic. And that’s not normal.”

Architects “are not fixated on having power,” he added “We’re interested in impacting the world and our communities in a positive way.”

Case in point: Shears said the firm has been working on the River Mile project involving the redevelopment of parking lots around Ball Arena, with groundbreaking slated for 2027. “It’s a project that we think will be a connector and a catalytic new project for Denver as we launch into what I hope is our next phase of prosperity,” he said.
