As principal and president of longstanding Denver firm Anderson Mason Dale Architects, David Pfeifer, 56, has helped lead the design of numerous award-winning projects, including the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum in Colorado Springs (in partnership with New York’s Diller Scofidio + Renfro) and numerous educational facilities.
An architect for 25 years, Pfeifer said he feels he is helping continue a legacy of working towards a human-centric public realm. “We’re fortunate to work with public institutions which do have a really big impact on the public realm—and we do that very consciously,” he said. “We like to design the places where children and grandchildren will be educated, or where they meet in the public sphere.”
Not only does it represent the majority of Anderson Mason Dale’s work, education is also front and center for Pfeifer and the firm’s “citizen architects” beyond their usual design workload. “I have been involved with the University of Colorado for years,” said Pfeifer. “Many folks in our firm are involved in studio reviews. Really trying to support our local architectural education is very important to us.”
