Rich Carr, 58, has been practicing architecture in the Roaring Fork Valley for more than 30 years. Now a partner at CCY Architects in Basalt, Carr has designed private residences and base villages for ski resorts, and is focused on integrating buildings into the natural environment.

“We have a business, but I think why we’re in architecture is because we want to make an impact,” said Carr. “We want to make people’s lives better. We want the built environment to be smarter and better for everybody.”

The 2023 AIA Colorado Architect of the Year, Carr highlighted a current project designing a new facility for the nonprofit Carbondale Clay Center.

“We do pro bono projects,” he said. “They are very fulfilling.”
