The Denver Regional Council of Governments has launched a new rebate program offering incentives for heat pump installations and free energy advising for homeowners and businesses across the Denver metro region.
The program, Power Ahead Colorado, provides a $1,500 rebate on the purchase of an ENERGY STAR-certified cold-climate heat pump installed by a verified Power Ahead Colorado contractor. The rebate can be combined with other available incentives.
Power Ahead Colorado also offers free energy advising by phone and email to help property owners evaluate home electrification projects, heat pumps and energy-saving opportunities.
“We know the decision to switch to a heat pump can feel like a big one,” Mac Prather, Power Ahead Colorado rebates and incentives manager, said. “By lowering the upfront cost of a heat pump and by offering free energy advising, we want to make this decision as easy as possible for homeowners and businesses with aging heating and cooling systems.”
Over the next four years, the program plans to invest $40 million in energy efficiency upgrades for homeowners and building owners throughout the Denver metro region.
Xcel Energy said customers may be able to combine the Power Ahead Colorado rebate with utility incentives.
“We’re excited to see Power Ahead Colorado launch a heat pump rebate that, when combined with Xcel Energy rebates and others, helps make upgrading to a heat pump more affordable,” Emmett Romine, vice president of customer energy and transportation solutions at Xcel Energy, said.
Heat pumps use electricity to provide both heating and cooling and can replace traditional furnaces and air conditioners.
