Emily Griffith Technical College in Denver has launched an Adult High School Diploma+ program that allows adults to earn a diploma while completing workforce training.
The program is the only one in Colorado that combines a high school diploma with a workforce credential, including a Career and Technical Education certificate. Students earn credit by completing approved professional training aligned with in-demand careers.
More than 300,000 adults in Colorado lack a high school diploma, according to the college.
“This program creates a direct pathway for adults to earn their high school credential while building real-world skills,” said Ryan Yates, dean of English and Adult Education at Emily Griffith Technical College.
Students complete competency-based coursework in English, math and civics along with career training. Workforce options include certifications such as OSHA as well as programs in health care, information technology and skilled trades, including nurse assisting, computer networking, HVAC, welding and automotive service.
The program is authorized under Senate Bill 23-007, which allows technical colleges to issue high school diplomas to adult learners. It costs $150 and can be completed in as little as eight weeks through in-person and remote instruction.
Adults age 17 and older without a high school diploma or equivalent are eligible to enroll. Registration runs from May 4 to May 14, with the first cohort beginning on May 27. Additional cohorts and part-time options are planned later this year.
