Quark software founder Tim Gill started the Gill Foundation in 1994 with the goal of advancing equality by supporting nonprofit organizations that serve lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and allied individuals, as well as people with HIV/AIDS. Over the years, the foundation has given more than $304 million to programs and nonprofit organizations, LGBT advocacy groups, education, civic engagement and public broadcasting.
Foundation CEO Courtney Cuff says Gill likes to direct the attention to people who work in advocacy nationwide.
