San Diego-based Schmidt Design Group has opened a Denver office as it expands into the Mountain West.
The landscape architecture and planning firm, founded in 1983, will base its new office in the RiNo district. Principal Todd Schechinger will lead the location. He has been with the firm for 13 years and has 20 years of experience in the field.
The firm said the Denver office will support projects across Colorado and the broader region. Its work includes parks, civic spaces, commercial developments, housing and education campuses.
“As we expand into Colorado and the Mountain West, we’re bringing a design approach focused on creating environments that reflect the character of the region,” said JT Barr, president and managing partner.
Schechinger began his career in Denver and said the region’s growth is driving demand for landscape design.
“As communities across Denver and the Mountain West continue to grow, we have a responsibility to create spaces that support quality of life while preserving the natural environment,” Schechinger said.
Schmidt Design Group has about 40 employees nationwide, including licensed landscape architects and sustainability specialists.
